Each year, Macy’s in Union Square partners with UCSF Children’s Hospital to help raise funds for patients and programs through the sale of the lights that adorn the 80-foot-tall fir tree. The sale of the lights is the traditional kick off to the downtown holiday shopping season.
The actual tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving, in Union Square.
Purchasing a light for the Macy’s tree supports the efforts of committed health care professionals at UCSF Children’s Hospital. Last year, over $200,000 went directly to the hospital’s palliative care program, which supports families with children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
Each light costs $10. Tickets to sponsor the lights are accompanied by a souvenir tree lighting lapel pin. The kick off event will feature complimentary food, fun, and festivities.
