UCSF "Twins and More" workshop for expectant parents

WHAT: Experts from UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Children's Hospital will address the challenges of multiple pregnancies. The program is designed for expectant families.

WHEN: 8:30 AM -12:30 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2005

WHERE: Embassy Suites, 101 McInnis Parkway, San Rafael

FEE: There is no tuition fee, but advance registration is required.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Pre-registration is required for the event. Call the UCSF Women's Health/Great Expectations Pregnancy Program at (415) 353-2667 or email whrc@ucsfmedctr.org. The registration deadline is October 31. PROGRAM TOPICS: Because of the risk of premature birth affiliated with twins and their low birth weight, workshops participants will learn about the state-of-the-art facilities at UCSF Children's Hospital for newborns. UCSF expertise for multiple births includes genetic testing, ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis of special complications, nutrition and social support for mothers and postpartum support for both mothers and infants.

THE EXPERTS: The panel of UCSF medical experts includes: perinatologist Patricia Robertson, MD, professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences; neonatologist Carol Miller, MD; neonatal nurse Mary K. Stratigos; midwife Judith Bishop; lactation specialist Fritzi Drosten; and social worker Becky Abel.

PERSONAL STORIES: A panel of parents and a panel of twins will discuss real-life experiences, offering valuable insights about what to expect during pregnancy and beyond.
