SUBJECT: HIV intersects with reproductive biology at UCSF seminar
A UCSF Women's HIV Interdisciplinary Network (WHIN) seminar titled " Reproductive Biology: Intersections with HIV Research" will take place Monday, May 24, 2004.
"The seminar will feature a unique merging of HIV/AIDS research with reproductive health research. Speakers will address key differences in how men and women respond to pathogens, and understanding those differences is essential for effective treatment and prevention of HIV," said Ruth Greenblatt, MD, WHIN co-director and UCSF professor of clinical medicine and epidemiology.

"For an in depth understanding of how a microbicide could work to prevent HIV transmission, presentations looking at the immunology of the female genital tract should be instructive," said Warner Greene, MD, PhD, WHIN co-director, director of the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology, and UCSF professor of medicine, microbiology, and immunology.
The seminar will begin at 8 am with remarks by Greenblatt and Greene, and is co-sponsored by the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and the UCSF-Gladstone Institute for Virology and Immunology Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
