Infants born more than one week past their due dates have a higher risk of both impaired health and death, according to two new studies by authors from the University of California’s San Francisco and Berkeley campuses.

29 September: Screen heart patients for depression, AHA says

The American Heart Association has called for routine screening for depression in patients with heart disease, citing a depression rate that is three times higher than in the general population.

25 September: Rhodessa Jones performs at benefit for UCSF Women's HIV Program

Acclaimed artist, singer and writer Rhodessa Jones and The Medea Project will perform at “Living Proof,” a celebration to benefit the 15th anniversary of the UCSF Women’s HIV Program.

24 September: San Francisco Bay swim to benefit child cancer care at UCSF

Swimming enthusiasts are invited to join a team of Olympians for Swim Across America’s third annual San Francisco Bay Area Open Water Swim on Saturday, October 18. The events benefits cancer care at UCSF Children’s Hospital.

23 September: Two UCSF scientists recognized for transformative research

Two UCSF scientists are among the 31 nationwide who have received 2008 New Innovator Awards from the National Institutes of Health. The awards are designed “to enable recipients to pursue exceptionally innovative approaches that could transform biomedical and behavioral science."

23 September: UCSF celebrates 45 years of transplants and 10,000 patients

UCSF is celebrating 45 years of transplant procedures and 10,000 patients. A world leader in the field of organ and cell transplantation, UCSF has designated Transplantation Week from September 22-28, 2008. A series of special events, public lectures and forums is scheduled.

18 September: Virtual colonoscopy as good as other colon cancer screening methods, study says

CT colonography (CTC), known as virtual colonoscopy, is as accurate at screening for colorectal cancers and pre-cancerous polyps as conventional colonoscopy, the current screening standard, according to the National CT Colonography Trial

18 September: Regents approve plans for new UCSF Mission Bay Hospital complex

Today UCSF Medical Center is one step closer to breaking ground for a new hospital complex on the UCSF Mission Bay campus following the unanimous approval by the University of California Board of Regents on the project’s design, budget and environmental certification.

17 September: UCSF leaders propose University of California School of Global Health

The Regents of the University of California are hearing a formal proposal today that will launch the next stage of planning for the UC School of Global Health to meet the tremendous need for training new leaders to tackle increasing global health issues.
