Print Version MUNI Light Rail Project Causes Traffic Detours
Two street closures near Pacific Bell Park and Mission Bay will continue for several weeks as part of construction for MUNI's Third Street Light Rail Project.
Beginning this week (Jan. 6), eastbound King Street will be closed between Fourth and Third streets through March 27, 2003, and southbound Third Street will be closed between Channel (Owens) Street and Mariposa Street through Feb. 13, 2003.
MUNI will be rerouting traffic in three locations and has provided maps describing the street closures and the recommended detour routes for motorists.
Here are the specific details about the detours:
King Street Eastbound Detour: Jan. 6 — March 27
King Street will be closed to through traffic between Third and Fourth streets on the south side. Motorists exiting Highway 280 East should take the following detours:
Traveling East on King Street:
Right turn on Fifth Street
Left turn on Berry Street
Continue on Berry Street until reaching Third Street
Motorists can proceed either north or south on Third Street once at the Berry/Third Street intersection
Motorists can travel east on King from Third Street
Getting Downtown from 280 East:
Third Street Southbound Detour: Jan. 6 — Feb. 15
For about five weeks, part of Channel and Third streets, from Channel to Mariposa Street, will be closed. During this closure, east and westbound traffic on Channel Street will be switched to the north side of the street. There will be no southbound traffic on Third Street between Mission Rock and Mariposa. Motorists will be able to travel northbound on Third Street. Eastbound motorists from Channel Street, desiring to travel south on Third Street, must make a left turn onto Third Street, then a right turn on Terry A. Francois Blvd. Motorists will be able to take Terry A. Francois south to Mariposa Street and then continue south on Third Street.
Third Street Northbound and Southbound Detour: Feb. 15 — March 27
Third Street will be closed to north and southbound traffic between Mission Rock and Mariposa streets. All traffic will be rerouted to Terry A. Francois Blvd.
