- UC regents near decision on new president (San Francisco Chronicle)
The Chronicle reported from the UC Board of Regents meeting at UCSF Mission Bay yesterday that the Regents may announce it's recommendation for a new president today.
- Genes and Post-Traumatic Stress (Time Magazine)
Researchers from Emory University report in the Journal of the American Medical Association that susceptibility to post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) depends not only on the severity of the trauma, but by an individual's genes and past experiences. Dr. Thomas Neylan, director of the PTSD Program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, comments on screening for PTSD vulnerability.
- Health officials ID heparin contaminant (USA Today)
USA Today reports: "A chemical probably derived from cow trachea and pig ears was used to adulterate batches of the blood-thinning drug heparin that are associated with 19 deaths, according to the Food and Drug Administration." --- David Kessler, former commissioner of the FDA and now a professor of pediatrics at the University of California-San Francisco, is quoted.

- UC regents close to naming new president (ABC 7 Morning News - KGO-TV)
ABC 7 reports: “The University of California is close to naming a new president for the ten campus system to replace UC President Robert Dynes who announced plans to retire last August. The San Francisco Chronicle says the recommendation for the top candidate could come as early as today. Among the front-runners is the chancellor of the University of Texas system Mark Yudof. The UT system has 185,000 students, nine campuses and six health institutions.” --- Air Time: 6 AM [This story also aired on KTVU at 6 AM today.]
- Foot-washing ceremonies support UC workers (KTVU Channel 2 News at 6 AM (FOX) - KTVU-TV)
KTVU reports: “Bay Area religious leaders will participate in two foot-washing ceremonies today in support of workers at University of California campuses. Over 100 religious leaders will wash the feet of service workers at UC Berkeley and the UC San Francisco Medical Center today at noon. They want to call attention to a severely underpaid work force; UC workers earn 25% less than workers at comparable public universities.”

- Horton Wins 2008 Bressler Prize in Vision Science (UCSF Today)
Jonathan C. Horton, MD, PhD, professor in the departments of ophthalmology, neurology and physiology at UCSF, has won the 2008 Alfred W. Bressler Prize in Vision Science, awarded by the Jewish Guild for the Blind.
