- Olympics: Asthmatic athletes fear choking in Beijing smog (Honolulu Advertiser - Online)
The Honolulu Advertiser reports: "Athletes with exercise-induced asthma will be vulnerable in Beijing, where the air is filled with smoke from coal-fired power plants, dust kicked up by construction crews and car exhaust." John Balmes, a doctor who studies the effects of pollution on the lungs at the University of California, San Francisco, is quoted.

The Chronicle reports: "Three students were arrested this morning after locking themselves to the doors of the UCSF Mission Bay community center in an attempt to prevent the University of California's Board of Regents from meeting."

Students protested at the UC Board of Regents meeting at UCSF Mission Bay Campus Community Center this morning, locking themselves to the building with bike chains and chanting "Free the UC."
