  • Schmidt launches Google Health (CNET.com)
    CNET reports: "Search giant Google launched Google Health and announced major industry partners on Thursday, aiming to be the Intuit for personal health care, where people can access all their health information in one spot. ... Google Health aims to untether the 2 billion X-rays taken in the U.S. each year, 62 million CAT scans, and other health data, and put them all online for the patients to access." --- UCSF is mentioned as a future partner.
  • Safer Stem Cells? (Forbes.com)
    Forbes reports: "[PrimeGen]...a small biotech company backed by billionaire John Tu claims to have created stem cells without destroying human embryos or introducing cancer-causing genes, in what could be a major step toward using these stem cells for human trials. ... 'If this is real, it really is a significant step,' says Arnold Kriegstein, director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at U.C. San Francisco. 'They could be on to something.'"
  • Wine country from a different perspective (Saint Helena Star)
    Napa Valley Vintner and philanthropist Koerner Rombauer is a force in funding cancer research, and fundraising for the UCSF Foundation-Cancer Research Fund started by Joan Rombauer, his wife and partner of 43 years, before her death from pancreatic cancer in 2002.

  • Billionaire Gives It All Away (CBS Morning News - CBS News Network)
    CBS reports: "Once hailed as one of the richest men in the U.S., billionaire Chuck Feeney gave away his entire fortune to charitable foundations around the world." CBS references Feeney's $50 million gift, through Atlantic Philanthropies, toward construction of a new building for cardiovascular research and clinical treatment at the University’s Mission Bay campus. UCSF is not mentioned; video of the Mission Bay construction site is shown.
  • New Study Questions Effectiveness of Anti-Depressants (KTVU-TV CH 2 (FOX) San Francisco)
    UCSF Pharmacy Professor Paul Lofholm, discusses with KTVU concerns over the effectiveness of taking anti-depressant drugs. Dr. Lofholm says he sees people who do benefit from SSRIs and emphasizes the importance of FDA disclosure of drug trials. --- Air Time: 6 AM
