- Dispute over oysters in Drakes Bay pits harvester against park service (San Francisco Chronicle - San Rafael Bureau)
The Chronicle reports: "Kevin Lunny, the proprietor of Drakes Bay Oyster Co., has accused National Park Service officials of misrepresenting science and even fabricating environmental problems in their zeal to drive his company off the historic Marin County estero. The park service denies the accusations, insisting that the oyster harvesting operation has a negative impact on harbor seal pupping and damages highly sensitive eelgrass." --- Corey Goodman, a UCSF biological scientist, was a consultant in the dispute.
- Methodist catches California research team (Houston Business Journal)
Dr. John Baxter, chief of the Endocrinology Section and director of the Metabolic Research Unit at UCSF, is "one of the nation's top researchers in the fields of diabetes and cardiovascular disease" recruited by the Methodist Hospital Research Institute, reports the Houston Business Journal.

- Songbirds Give Insight Into Motor Skills (Alalam News, Iran)
Alalam News in Iran published most of a UCSF press release describing research by Evren Turner and Michael Brainard (not mentioned in the article) that found songbirds change their pitch in an effort to maintain or improve their sound, lending an understanding to how humans learn and improve motor skills.
