- Correction: Microbes May Threaten Lengthy Spaceflights (Washington Post)
Correction: Tuesday's FYI, and the UCSF Directory, incorrectly list the title for Dr. Millie Hughes-Fulford as associate chief of staff at the UCSF VAMC. The associate chief of staff for research at the UCSF VAMC is Dr. Lynn Pullliam. Dr. Hughes-Fulford's correct title is: senior researcher in the medical service at the UCSF VAMC, scientific advisor to the Undersecretary of the Dept of Veterans Affairs, and adjunct professor of medicine at UCSF. Millie Hughes-Fulford was quoted in a Washington Post story Monday that examined decreased immune function in astronauts.
- Trial of Cholesterol Drug Gets House Scrutiny (New York Times)
The New York Times reports: "A Congressional committee is investigating Merck and Schering-Plough for their handling of a critical clinical trial of Zetia, their blockbuster cholesterol-lowering drug." -- Dr. Michael Crawford, interim chief of cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco, is mentioned.
- Group warns that nurses face health risks from chemical exposure (San Francisco Chronicle)
The Chronicle reports: "The very chemicals used to keep hospitals squeaky clean and to treat patients could be harmful to nurses who are exposed to them in their daily duties, according to a study released Tuesday by an Oakland environmental group." -- Lisa Hartmayer, a registered nurse at UCSF, is quoted.
- Best of California 2007 (California Construction Magazine)
Anshen + Allen, the architect group building the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, was selected as Architect of the Year in California Construction's "Best of 2007" list recognizing architecture projects in California. UCSF Today reports: "Four California-based artists will talk about their recent installations at the UCSF Mission Bay campus on Thursday, Dec. 13.
